Guffawing is a games jam project with the topic “Make me laugh” made with 2 of my friends. I worked on the game design and made the levels for the game. It was made in 3 days and is a top down shooter where the player takes down enemies with laughing gas.
Our initial plan was to create a top down game with a laughing goon that beats people with a bat but it soon got scrapped since we saw no assets that fit the vision. I then saw an asset pack that had a bunch of enemy types shooting out green flames, which sparked an idea of using that as a laughing gas therefore fitting the game jam theme.
It was my first time using the unity engine and level designing for it. I knew I had to create simple levels with interesting environments for the player to take down enemies in. Nothing too complicated since the goal was just to make enemies laugh to death.
Coming up with the fun mechanic of filling up your gauge and transforming into this hulking beast to kill your enemies was cool as well. We also made transforming the only way to heal as well, which gives incentive for the player to spam the ability.
